Towards Manarola

Further to the Cinque Terre, we never made it from Corniglia to the neighbouring Manarola because the coastal path was closed and we were amateurs enough to enter the hillside hiking trail unprepared, that is without any snacks. However, as the beeline distance between the two villages is a mere kilometre we had plenty of opportunities to admire its outline. The first two photos show the view we had from the panoramic terrace of Corniglia upon our arrival.

Below is how Manarola looked like from the hiking trail I told about here.

When we were driving away from the area we stopped at a most scenic spot on the hillside to take a few final photos of the magnificent terraced vineyards and there it was again in the haze. If we had hiked the hillside trail all the way to Manarola we would have walked through these terraces. Had we known this we might just have been able to ignore our hunger and follow it through.

The clouds certainly were low that morning in late April.

    1. It must have required the patience of generations to build the terraces. You cannot but respect and admire the men who made it happen.

  3. I'm looking at your beautiful photos and thinking of the first people to build their houses here, it must have been very hard work.
