Hilltop in winter

It only took a few frosty nights, a tiny bit of snowfall and some sunshine: we were back in the beautiful winter track.

Wednesday was one of the recent lovely sunny days. I drove to check the snowy views from the hilltop of the Old Castle of Lieto. Not bad even in wintertime I dare say.

Two weeks ago, we climbed the hill to watch the sun set. We also happened to spot the moon rise in the opposite direction for a short moment before it disappeared behind the heavy cloud cover. That time we lingered on the hilltop so long we were lucky to witness a captivating sight also when returning to the street level. The temperature was a few degrees below freezing point and it was getting colder after sunset. Some fog had started to form over the riverbed that was completely frozen over and was spreading to the fields.

If you missed my posts on the hilltop and the scenes from there in June and July you might want to have a look here and here. Those views are almost like from another world. Despite my continued difficulties to stand the cold deep down I am well and truly happy both the extremes are from that of mine.

  1. Just so beautiful. You are so patient waiting for great shots and frozen to the bone no doubt. The mist rolling in is stunning. A fantastic part of the world. B x

    1. You are correct, Barbara. Whenever we have some sunshine we try to head somewhere to admire Mother Nature's winter wonderland.

  2. That is stunning and I immediately recognized that view from last June. I'm not sure I will enjoy driving on those snowy roads! Sarah x

    1. For winter driving we must have winter tyres. In fact, they are compulsory for all motor vehicles on our roads from the beginning of December until the end of February so winter driving is not that bad once you get used to it.
